WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 42
April 13, 2003

Hi everyone! After one lovely week in California, I am back in New York.

So a couple of things... First of all, somehow there was an error on one of my Daily Buck pages, and I lost Weeks 21-25. Rats. And like an idiot, I didn't have the info saved. So if for some reason someone has the info in those Daily Bucks saved on their computer, if you could please email it to me that would be great. I don't know why someone WOULD have it saved, but maybe they were going to make their own Daily Buck page and saved some of mine as examples. I don't know...

In book news... the galleys are done being printed and will soon go out to press to get reviewed. It's really neat because the galleys look like a real book. They are bound and everything! And, YOU CAN NOW PRE-ORDER "Save Karyn" the book on Amazon.com. Isn't that fun? Yay! I feel like a real author now! Click Here to Order "Save Karyn: One Shopaholic's Journey to Debt and Back" through Amazon.com. Neato!

In more news... I said I was going to donate the $13,000 that I received from people to a charity when I have the money, so I am starting to look around for a good one. Maybe something like a children's charity or something. So if you know of a needy organization, please let me know. I won't donate the money immediately because I don't have it right now, but hopefully soon enough I will have it. So I'm starting to look around.

It would be nice to have it maybe go to building a playground or stocking up a playroom at a children's hospital or something. I did a radio interview once and mentioned wanting to do something like this when my debt was paid off, and a nice man called in and said that his daughter had recently passed away after being sick in a hospital for a long time. And he said that the hospital she was in needed a playground really badly. He said that she and the other kids needed to have fun and laugh. So I want to do something like that. Something along those lines...

So that's really it for this week. Take care everyone!
XOXO, Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 40 & 41
April 6, 2003

Howdy! Greetings from sunny California! I am in Los Angeles visiting a friend and boy it sure is nice outside! It has been a CRAPPY winter in NYC FOR SURE. And it is snowing there right now, so I am SO happy I am not there. And I'm staying with a friend who lives in a really fancy house in the hills. We're talking REALLY fancy. Like out of a movie fancy. I'm like WOW every time I stop and look around.

Anywho... all is well here. Today I went hiking and almost died. I have "book fat." It's kind of like baby fat that people have after they have a baby. But mine is from writing a book. Too many Gummi bears and Pepsi. So I almost died because I am so not fit. BUT HAVE NO FEAR... because LA is here, and all the skinny folks have quickly reminded me how important it is to stay in shape. So, in a few weeks I will be back to normal.

Bev the dog is here and did a real good job on the plane. She just slept in her doggie bag and didn't make a peep. Elvis the cat stayed home. He's not a big fan of leaving the house.

So anywho... tomorrow I am going to Santa Barbara. And they have outlet malls there. I shouldn't be buying anything. BUT maybe I will so I can write about how much money I saved. Yeah... that's a good excuse...

Have a lovely week!

XOXO,
Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 39
March 23, 2003

So sorry for the delay folks, but I have been SICK. Yep. I caught a cold. Yuck. It has been really nice outside, and after being cooped up all winter, I left my apartment and was out amongst the people this past weekend. And wouldn't you know it, but I got sick. I know who it was too, who gave me the cold. It was this guy who was sitting next to me on the train. He was all sick and grody and SNEEZED and all I thought was "oh yuck." I knew I was going to get sick.

But I feel better after lots of rest and some Walgreen's brand Sudafed. Aren't you proud of me? I bought the generic kind. It really is the same stuff. I looked at the ingredients, which the front of the box always tells you to do. It was $3 cheaper. And the Walgreen family is from Chicago (where I'm from) so I feel like I'm helping to support a local. (Except the company went public and the family is LOADED.)

Anywho... on to other things. Well, my editor sent the manuscript of my book to a NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author named Marian Keyes and she raved about it! Yay! Here's an excerpt from her email...

"What a great story! Thank you so much for sending it to me - I DEVOURED it in 2 sittings and ACHED with identification on every single page and with every single purchase. What was so incredible about it was how easy to see how it could happen - a 'there but for the grace of God' moment. I loved Karyn, she was so funny and she completely articulated the dichotomy (if that's the right word)of every woman in the world - the gap between the person we know we are and what we want to present to the outside world. And even though this is a very funny and engaging book, it also throws up very serious questions about identity and self-esteem, about how women are fooled into thinking they can buy a new persona. And then when she set up the web-site I was so rooting for her - peoples' reactions were absolutely fascinating, and even though some (several) of the emails she got were hostile and sometimes insane, this book is SO uplifting. I just kept thinking 'there are decent people out there.' ; instead of being depressed by the hostile reactions Karyn got, I was cheered to see that so many people have hung on to their generosity of spirit, despite negative influences. Save Karyn really is a triumph of the goodness of people. Yay!!! And it's just a great old read and I'm sure it'll strike a chord with people everywhere."

Yay! She liked my book! Here's some links to some of Marian Keyes books. (I'm reading Rachel's Holiday right now.)

Anywho... 'til next week, buckle up!

XOXO,
Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 38
March 16, 2003

Howdy partners! Big day here on the cattle ranch. Not really, but I've always wanted to say that.

So, what have I been doing... well, there's book stuff to do. It's all written and is being copy-edited. And lord knows it needs that - if you've read my website thoroughly you should be familiar with my spelling and grammatical errors.

The next step is that HarperCollins makes these things called "galleys" - and they are like mock-ups of the book that they send to press and stuff to get reviews and quotes and stuff like that. You know when you buy a book and there is a quote on the cover that says something like, "A must read! - Cosmopolitan magazine"? Well, they get those from sending out the galleys. So I'll keep you posted.

In other news... check out my eBay auction this week. My cousin is getting married in September and she bought a wedding dress. But then she lost a bunch of weight and had to get another dress. So she asked me if I'd sell it for her on eBay. So if you know anyone who is looking for a wedding dress, send them to the link below...

My Cousin's Wedding Dress

It's BRAND NEW and NEVER BEEN WORN OR ALTERED, and she paid like $900 for it. So email me with any questions!

'Til next week... STAY SAFE! NO WAR!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 37
March 9, 2003

Yo yo mammies! How is everyone this week? I hope you are all doing well. So, this week was a good one. I'm getting back to normal after writing my book. Well, as "normal" as I was before I wrote it anyway. I've never been "normal" normal. But anywho... I saw the cover for the book and it's SO COOL! It had my name written across the top in big letters: "Karyn Bosnak". It's weird to see. I seriously can't believe I wrote a whole book! It's almost 300 pages. So anyway, I hope you all like it when it comes out. And as soon as the cover is "official" I'll show you all.

What's next... Well, I need to find a job now. You get an advance for writing a book, which is what I've been living on, but it's not going to last forever. And I've been really good at still living "on the cheap" you know. I've only gotten my hair professionally cut and colored ONCE since April - and even then, I only got a partial highlight. I haven't had a manicure or a pedicure or anything like that since then either.

Like I was saying, I need to get a job. So I need to figure out what I want to do. I'm not sure if I want to go back to working in television again. I have to figure it out. So I bought this book called "What Color is my Parachute?" It's like this super famous job search book, but more for figuring out what you want to do in life. It's good for people wanting to change careers and stuff. I like TV, but I think I want to change what I do in TV. I don't want to be a producer anymore, but maybe a writer for TV instead. I don't know... Part of me just wants to be that person that greets people at the Gap. "Hi, welcome to the Gap." That would be nice. No stress.

Oh well, 'til next week... greet everyone you see. Be friendly!

XOXO,
Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 35 & 36
March 2, 2003

Hi! I'm back! Thanks everyone for being so patient! Okay, here's what's been going on... I've been writing a book and it's finally finished! Yay!! The reason it was so difficult for me to update was because I haven't been doing anything except writing that book. Seriously. No life. I just woke up every day, ate breakfast, wrote, ate lunch, wrote, ate dinner, wrote, and went to sleep. And that was it. So it was kind of difficult to be like, "Today I saved a buck by..." because I never really did anything. So that's it!

Anywho... I'm back and I'm going to update my site on a regular basis - and I'm change it up a bit I think. Put more time into it, you know? Make it more fun. Write some more silly things. So anyway... have a glorious day!

Oh, wait one more thing... I'm going FINALLY answer all the emails I've received. So even if you sent me one six months ago, you'll get an answer. Adios buckaroos!

XOXO,
Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 34
February 16, 2003

Aloha! Happy President's Day Week! First of all PLEASE DON'T SEND ME NASTY EMAILS YELLING AT ME BECAUSE I HAVEN'T RESPONDED TO YOUR EMAILS!

I'M SORRY! I really am, but I'm on a tight deadline, and all my creative juices are flowing into "Save Karyn" the book - due out next fall.

The good thing is that it is due to my publisher at the end of the month, so I should be back to normal in no time!

Seriously, I do apologize. I funny because I just checked and saw that I still get over 100,000 hits a month on the website. I had no clue that many people still tuned in!

I am very grateful for everything everyone did to help me get out of my horrible debt, and it's kind of fun to relive it all again as I write about it in my book.

So, with that said... please have nice and safe week. If live in an area that was "blanketed" (I know when you read that word that you instantly thought of Michael Jackson) with snow, then please be careful when you drive! And play in it! That's what snow is for!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 32 & 33
February 9, 2003

Happy almost Valentine's Day! Sorry about the last two combined updates, but once again I've been crazy busy with my book. It is due at the end of the month, so all should be back to normal in a couple more weeks.

There is a little news of the home front though... there is a new addition to the family. Her name is Beverly, but she likes to be called Bev. Here's a photo.

Beverly (aka "Bev")

The cat's not crazy about Bev, but I figure they'll hit it of soon enough. He really has no choice.

Anyway, Bev is going to start taking questions from people once she gets rid of her ear mites and ringworm. She was hot mess when I got her. But I'm nursing her back to health.

'Til next week... XOXO, Karyn, Elvis & Bev

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 30 & 31
January 26, 2003

Aloha! I'm so sorry for not having a weekly update last week! I kept meaning to add one throughout the week and completely forgot. So my apologies.

I have been very busy writing my book, and am therefore sometimes late updating my site. And this week I received quite a few emails from people asking me if I had abandoned it. The answer is "no!" And I promise that in a few weeks everything will be back to normal. So please be patient!

Also, I get a lot of emails from people still on a daily basis, and while I do read most of them, I am not able to respond to all of them. It's near impossible. So please understand that. One day, I'd like to eventually respond to all of them, so if you sent me and email and haven't heard back, don't be surprised if in a few years one pops up in your inbox. Also, I could set up an automated response, but I can't figure out if you can do that with Hotmail. But even if I did figure it out, who really wants an automated response anyway? Not me.

So, I must go now. But I do wish you all joy and peace and good finances in the next week.

XOXO,
Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 29
January 12, 2003

Sorry this update is so late! I have been crazy busy! Anywho, this past week has been a good one. I am keeping really busy writing my book. So look for it in the fall!

Now to the "Pass the Buckers." This week I chose two because I got a lot of slack last week when I picked "Help a Geek Get Laid." Even though it was all in good fun, some people just do not have a sense of humor I guess. So I hope I redeemed myself.

On to my eBay auctions. I made a slight profit last week when I bought some shoes and resold them. So this week I bought some more! Click on the "Buy Karyn's Stuff" link to the left and check out what I have for sale.

I gotta run, so 'til next week!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 28
January 5, 2003

Happy 2003! Every new year I think it's important to start the year off right by giving yourself a dose of self-love. So do it with me, c'mon... look in the mirror... and say it: "I'm good enough! I'm smart enough! And doggone it! People like me!" I just love that Stuart Smalley.

Okay, so I'm seriously going to focus on making this year a good one. You know how I like to shop and all, well I decided to see if I can't buy and resell things on eBay. I saw this 20/20 or 48 Hours or something, and they interviewed this lady who bought THREE houses with money she made through selling stuff on eBay. All she did was buy designer stuff when it was on sale and resell on eBay. And I like to shop, and I live in New York. There's so much stuff here! Things that people can't get in other places. And I can get it on sale!

So I bought five things and listed them all on eBay to see what will happen. Maybe I'm on to something. But even if the stuff doesn't sell, I can return it to the store for a full refund. So go to the "Buy Karyn's Stuff" page and check out my auctions!

Okay, so this week I had a little fun with the "Pass the Bucker." It's a funny website from this computer geek who is trying to get laid. Check it out.

So 'til next week, buckle up for safety!
XOXO - Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 27
December 29, 2002

Happy Almost New Year! I hope you all had a glorious holiday! I know I did. So, this past week I went home to visit the family in Chicago. It was glorious. I love my family more than anything in the whole world! And I hope you all do too (love YOUR family that is, not mine. Unless you want to love mine. They'll gladly accept your love too.)

So, the holidays are a rough time for a girl who likes to shop. Why? Because I had to go into the stores to buy gifts, that's why. The same stores that carry things like shoes and purses. AND I got some gift certificates for Christmas, so I had to go into MORE stores to redeem those. But I did okay. I didn't break the bank, charge up the cards, or empty out the checking account.

It's time for New Year Resolutions. And I have two. No, it's not to "eat less /exercise more" (even though I should.) Both of my resolutions are inspired by a movie I recently rented called "Unfaithful" with Diane Lane, Richard Gere and some hunky French dude. It was really good (and really sexy for that matter.) But anyway... the French dude was a book dealer and gave Diane Lane a book that said,

"Be happy for this moment, for this moment is your life."

Ain't it the truth? Every moment of every day is what your life is. Your life isn't "what you are going to do," it's what you are doing right now at this moment. Don't live your life making plans. Just live your life. So that's my resolution. To go out more, make plans less, and to enjoy every day and live it like it's my last. When you have debt, it's really easy to fall into the "I'm going to pay this off, and THEN I'm going to live my life" way of thinking. And that's not good. Don't let it paralyze you. Lots of things in life can be this way, not just debt.

The second thing that stuck with me was something else the French guy said. He said,

"There's no such thing as a mistake. There's what you do and what you don't do."

Don't live your life in regret. Don't live it wishing you made different choices. Life is black and white. You either do things, or you don't do them. Mistakes happen in your head. I think the thought of making a mistake occurs in your head when you don't like the consequences of your actions. But you can't change what you have done, so why sit and fret about it and regret it?

Look at everything you do, and learn if you suffered bad consequences, but don't beat yourself up and wish you made different choices. Everything happens for a reason.

So those are my two resolutions - to quit making plans and live each day to the fullest, and to quit regretting mistakes I've made and move on. It's really just choosing to be happy right now at this moment.

So that's it! Happy new year! Be safe! Don't drink and drive!

Cheers! XOXO, Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 26
December 22, 2002

Well yodelay-hee-hoo everyone! Happy three days before Christmas! I've been a busy beaver this week getting ready or the big trip home to see the family. I had to take my roommate's dog to the boarding place today. I was very sad to leave her there even though she's CRAZY. She's a sweet JRT - which stands for Jack Russell Terrier - which could also stand for Jack Russell Terrorist. Her name is Veda ("VAY-da"). And sometimes when she's bad we call her "Veda from Al Queda, the Jack Russell Terrorist." Please note that when I say this, I am NOT making fun of terrorism, because terrorism is not funny. I am simply making fun of the fact that this dog sometimes gets out of control. But she is very loved even in spite of the fact that she has a bad gas problem and terrorizes the cat.

And I think it's about time that I tell you my cat's name. This website has been up for a whopping six months, and I still only refer to him as "the cat." He's ready to come out of the closet so to say. So here it is. Elvis. That's it. That's his name. His full proper name is "Elvis the Bush Cat." Because my mom found him living in a bush many years ago. She rescued him. He was all beat up and stuff. Every year when I pull out the fake Christmas tree, Elvis has flashbacks to his bush days and attacks the tree likes there are animals inside or something. And then he pretty much lives underneath it the whole time it's up. It's kind of like when humans go camping. Elvis goes camping under the fake Christmas tree. He sleeps under there, pitches a tent, sparks up a grill. He barfs under there too.

So, I hope everyone has a lovely and safe holiday (I'm trying to be PC here) this week. AND check out this week's "Pass the Bucker." It's two guys from Brooklyn who are trying to make a movie. They are real filmmakers, not just two guys who shot a home movie on a busted up VHS. They are REAL, and already spent $30,000 shooting a movie. But now they need $25,000 more to finish it. So they started a website to raise the money. AND the cool part is that if you give money to them, THEY WILL PUT YOUR NAME IN THE CREDITS! How cool is that? So if you spare a few bucks, send it their way! Support independent filmmakers! They don't have a big studio that they can call up to get the rest of the dough to finish it!

So once again, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanza, or Happy Whatever Holiday you celebrate! Be nice to your family. Thank God they exist. Thank God for good friends too. And thank God for pussycats and puppies. And don't forget... if you open up gifts that you don't like - just smile. You might not have gotten anything.

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 25
December 15, 2002

I'm so sorry for the delay in updating my website this week! I've been crazy-busy with the holidays (as we all have been) and fell asleep on the couch before I had a chance to update the website. I like sleeping on the couch by the way.

Anywho, this week has been a good one. I've been busy writing my book and getting ready for the holidays. I know my step-dad doesn't read this, so I'll tell you all that I got him some pajamas. And I know my mom and dad DO read this, so I can't tell you what I got them. And I don't think that my step-mom reads this, but my sister and I are getting my dad and step-mom a "joint" gift, so I can't tell you what it is.

Anywho, now that you know I'm a child of divorce, let me tell you about my step-sister. I have a real sister, two step-sisters, and a step-brother and each year we pull names and buy one gift for one person, rather buying four gifts for everybody. It's the way my family economizes. Well apparently, no one wants me this year because they are afraid that I will make fun of their gift on my website if I don't like it. And I just want to say that I WOULD NEVER DO THAT. DIRECTLY ANYWAY.

You see, right when I started this website I made fun of the fact that I had to use some stinky body lotion that I got as a Christmas gift last year, because it was the only thing that I had. I said that it was one of those lotions that you put in the way back of your cabinet when you get it. Well, the whole family from my stepsister to my grandpa's girlfriend think that they were the one that bought me the smelly lotion.

So I am here to say that it was not my stepsister that bought me the smelly lotion, and it wasn't my grandpa's girlfriend either. It was my aunt, but since I have a GAZILLION aunts, no one will really know who I am talking about.

But I appreciate the gift because it's the thought that counts. I'm sure I have bought many-a-gifts that people have hated. So who am I to judge? My nose just didn't like this particular scent. No big deal.

Okay, so enough about lotions and gifts... You have to check out this week's "Pass the Bucker" (it should be called "Pass the Buckee" don't you think? I would be the "Pass the Bucker" and the person I choose would be called the "Pass the Buckee," right?

Anywho, this week's "Pass the Bucker" is a cute EMT/soon to be paramedic named Brian, or EMTSTBPNB for short. EMTSTBPNB needs help paying off his credit card and student loan debt so he can go to paramedic school. So check him out on my "Karyn Saves You" page. There is a picture of him on his site, and I just have to say, "Boy is he cutsie." Pictures on website make all the difference. Even if they are silly obscured ones like my own. They really jazz it up.

The cat says hello to everyone too. He only barfed once all week. He's doin' good but he has a bit of the dry skin due to the cold weather. Flakes. My cat has flakes. But I love him nonetheless. So Happy Holidays! Spread the Christmas joy. Or the Hannukah joy. Or the Kwanzw joy. Or whatever kind of joy that you like to pass! Cheers. Be safe. Drive carefully. Don't slip on the ice. Don't get buried in snow. Don't leave your pet outside for too long. Happy Holidays!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 24
December 8, 2002

Top of the mornin' to you all. How's it going? Hopefully well. I've been a busy girl this week. First of all, I'm adding a page called, "Yo, You Broke Too?" to the website. It's going to have all sorts of tips on how you can live on the cheap. It should be up by Monday night.

I've also chosen the next "Pass the Bucker." It's a 10-year-old girl named Annie. Annie needs some serious orthodontic work done to fix her front teeth. The surgery costs over $6,000, but she and her grandma only need $3,720 more.

You can go to their website and see a picture of Annie's teeth and learn how it happened. The story says that the kids in school make fun of her and call her names. I hate bratty kids like that. I know it sounds mean, but I'd like to trip kids like that. They'd be walking down the street, acting all cool with their friends, and bam! Out goes my foot, down goes their body and all the kids would laught at THEM, not Annie. But I'm not going to do that because it's mean, and I don't know where they live anyway.

So, hopefully you'll give Annie some extra cash if you have it. The email from them said, "All Annie wants for Christmas is her two front teeth." Hopefully she'll get them.

Cheers! XOXO Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 23
December 1, 2002

Yowza! Welcome! Hope all is well. Let's see, what's new... Well, this week's "Pass the Bucker" (as I now like to call it) is a cat named Buster. It's a very funny website and you should all check it out.

This week my sister read my daily bucks and asked, "Karyn are you drunk when you write those?" I said, "No Lisa, of course I'm not!" She said the one that made her think so was the one about my "curves." She said, "What will people think?" I said, "Lisa, if I let what other people think stop me from doing things, then I would have never started this website, and I would have still owed $20,000."

So, my point in telling you this is just this: do what you want to do. Be yourself. Don't pretend to be something that you aren't.

I own curves dammit. And I am proud to say it. I am curve owner and wearer! It's who I am. It's what I need.

So, say who you are and be who you are - It's kind of freeing. Exhale baby.

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 22
November 24, 2002

Hello everyone! How's it goin'? Good here! So this week everything is up and running and back to normal. For the last part of last week and the first half of this past week, my changes and updates to the website weren't taking effect, but everything is back to normal.

Let's see... this week was a good one. I am busy writing my book, which is fun and takes up a lot of my time. Also, my friend came in to visit, so I was very busy entertaining and walking around the city. I may be debt-free, but I'm still broke. I'm just not broke and 20 grand in the hole.

The big thing for this website now is the Karyn Saves page. I've gotten SO MANY emails about it. Which is great! Just a note to people out there who email me: If you send me a really long email begging me to put up a link to your website, update it! Some people are sending me links to their website that hasn't been updated since October. Now, I admit sometimes I'm late on my updates, but usually just a few days, not a few months. And I know I've gotten a bit lax about the Daily mE-Mail, which is why I changed it to the Weekly mE-Mail. So hint, hint - update.

What's next. The cat is doing well. He got his yearly check-up and shots recently. Then he turned nasty for a few days when I tried to pick him up and touched his "shot area." Just trying to keep him healthy and he meows at me. Whatever.

As far as me, I have about $700 in my savings account. Yippie! That's so exiting! Someone gave me the idea to change my "Grand Debt Tally" page to a "Grand Savings Tally" page. You can watch me save!

Oh well. My battery is running out, so I'm must run. Check out Heather on the "Karyn Saves You" page. She's SO FUNNY! Toodleloo!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 21
November 17, 2002

Hi! Welcome to Week 21 update! I've used this past week to figure out what I am going to do with the Save Karyn site. And I came to this conclusion...

I am going to update the Daily Buck daily. And I'm going to update the Daily mE-Mail weekly, thus changing the name to the Weekly mE-Mail. I am going to be passing the buck on Monday, November 18th evening. So check in Tuesday to see the lucky person (or people!)

'Til next week... adios amigos!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 20
November 10, 2002

Hi Everyone! Welcome to my Weekly Update for Week 20. 20 weeks ago I sat in this very same seat at my kitchen table and asked you to help me pay off my credit card debt. And you did. THANK YOU THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

Never in a million years did I actually think this would work. But I thought it was worth a shot, and look what happened. Yippie! So what to do next... well, I'm writing a book that is scheduled to come out in Fall 2003. It'll be the funny story of what happened, sort like "Confessions of a Shopaholic" meets "Bridget Jones." Welcome to my wacky world! So look for it then! Buy it up!

Next week I will pick the "Karyn Saves" person. There are just so many emails to read - over 2,000 of them! So I am not ready yet. Look for it in Week 21 Update.

This week I have to find an able-bodied accountant and/or tax attorney to figure out if I have to claim the money that I received as income. And if I do, then I have to start saving for my taxes. So keep checking weekly for some new eBay auctions. I'll be cleaning out my closet again to make sure I have enough to pay those taxes.

So, keep checking in frequently. I am still launching my new website, www.prettyinthecity.com, in December. I have received some great jewelry and stuff to sell. My goal is to provide affordable clothing and accessories to women and men everywhere! BEACAUSE YOU CAN BE BROKE AND BEAUTIFUL AT THE SAME TIME!

So anywho... THANKS AGAIN! TAKE CARE! GOD BLESS! KISS YOUR KITTY, KISS YOU PUPPY, TELL YOUR MAMA YOU LOVE HER AND YOUR DADDY HE'S YOUR HERO! SMOOCHIE!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 19
November 3, 2002

Hi everyone! Welcome to my Weekly Update for Week 19! This week at Save Karyn... Let's see, I received about $220 from people. Yay! My debt is shrinking faster than you can say, "My debt is shrinking fast."

I feel as though this will be my last week. I only owe $389 more. Yay! Who would have thunk it? I am going to go on an eBay listing bonanza this week, so I can pay it all off! Yay!

I am also taking down the PayPal and Amazon links. So please don't send me anymore money! I am going to count on my eBay auctions this week to put me over the edge!

So anywho... I am getting close to picking a person for the "pass off." There are so many emails! Tons! I will let you know next week.

So 'til next week... smoochie woochie hoochie coochies! Adios!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 18
October 27, 2002

Howdy! Well, it looks like my debt it slithering away to nothing. I'm so much closer to zero. After this week, I only owe about $700. This week I took in about $100 or so. Not much compared to the height of Save Karyn, but still more money than I had last week.

My eBay sales were really good. I took in about $275 with those. And some TOOL bid on five of my items as a JOKE, so I have to relist them. Anywho... I am going to list a bunch of things on Monday, so check out my eBay listings then.

This week I should be picking a person to pass the buck to. I have over 1000 emails from people, so it will be quite a task choosing. I will keep you posted on how it goes. So many people out there owe money. When I started this website, it was easy for me to think I was the only person, because that's how owing $20,000 made me feel. But that's not the case.

So this week, I have been working on my newest venture. When my debt is paid off, I am going to still keep savekaryn.com, but also start a new website. I've been toying around with what it will be, and have decided that it will be a website that will sell inexpensive clothing and accessories to both men and women. At first it was going to be a "How to live cheaply in New York" thing, but then that alienated the rest of the country, so that was no good. So then I decided that I would create a website that brought the "cheap New York" to others.

You see, New York is funny that way. On one hand it can be really, really expensive. You can shop on Fifth Avenue and spend a fortune. But on the other hand, it can be really cheap. You can shop on Canal Street and get the latest belts, sunglasses, and accessories and hardly spend anything. There is also this place called "Century 21" that is like a designer TJ Maxx. They sell Prada, Marc Jacbos, all sorts of designer stuff for cheap. You can also go to street vendors at fairs where local designers sell their jewelry. My new website will bring THAT New York to you. It will bring inexpenxive clothes and accessories to men and women. You don't have to spend a fortune to look beautiful! If I just knew that when I moved here...

Amywho, it's going to be called "Pretty in the City" and it's tag line is "Being broke has never been so beautiful!" Isn't that FUN? So, if you are a designer of some sort, or have a website that sells cool stuff and would be willing to give my website viewers a discount, please contact me.

So, 'til next week... smoochie woochie hoochie coochies! I have always liked to say that. But I usually say it to my friends, cuz some people are like, "Who you calling a hoochie?" But I decided to share it with you too, because you are my friends. Oh yeah, and check out my new site...

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 17
October 20, 2002

Aloha website surfers! Welcome to my weekly update! I'm in Chicago at the moment and will be going back to New York tomorrow, Monday. What that means is that I have not opened my mailbox at home and therefore will not know what my weekly totals are until Monday. So please be patient! I will update the money totals tomorrow!

So, check back Monday evening! Ciao! I'M BACK! IT'S TUESDAY... Okay, this week I made about $344. So, my grand debt tally is down to about $1,200. Wowwie!

My eBay sales last week went well, and I should be collecting most of that money this week, so it should be a good one. Check out my new ebay sales... a nice Theory shirt, and a whole bunch of more crap! I like cleaning out my closet to see what I can sell. It's kind of fun!

So, this weekend I went home to see my friend who had a baby. First of all, she is the prettiest baby in the whole world. So sorry to everyone who thinks they have the prettiest baby, because this one has you beat. Also, I visited my grandpa. He's 80. He's not doing too well because he has a clogged artery in his neck that they have to fix. So, pray for my grandpa. He's the BEST.

I'm getting very close to reaching my goal, so send a buck if you can! 'Til next week... call your mama, call your dad, visit your siblings and grndparents. Family is good. It's as simple as that.

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 16
October 13, 2002

Howdy! Welcome to the four month anniversary of my website! Holy smokes! This week in Save Karyn news... I owe under $2,000! This past week I received $343 from people, and made $174 in eBay sales! The Grand Debt Tally is now down to $1664! That's less than my OLD rent in Manhattan! Wow!

In eBay news... check out some new item I listed yesterday. Last week's "Big Ticket Item" (Katayone Adeli denim jacket) turned into this week's "Big Ticket Item" because my roommate went out of town and took the digital camera, so I couldn't take pictures and list the item until yesterday. Check it out!

Let's see... Oh, I received a lot of requests to give an update on the Kitty Whiz Transfer System (the cat toilet training device)... Well, I regret to inform you that it is no longer a part of our household. This is what happened... I had to put this device on the toilet and fill it with litter, and the cat was supposed to plop himself up there on the seat and go like a person. But he was too little and kept falling in and couldn't stretch his little legs to reach each side of the seat. And I don't think he figured out that he could sort of perch on the front of the seat. So... I took it away and gave up.

So this week I plan on going on an eBay selling bonanza. I cleaned out some of my CDs and will list them on Monday. You know how many CDs I bought for just one song? Tons! So check them out and bid away! BUy more than one and save on shipping!

So in closing, I'd like to say that Halloween is near. And I'd like to remind everyone to carve a pumpkin this year. It's a very festive thing to do. I am also looking for a REALLY cheap costume, so if anyone has any ideas, please email me. Thanks! Bye bye!

XOXO,
Karyn

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 15
October 6, 2002

G'day! How's it goin? Okay no dilly-dallying here, let's get right down to it. Things are good. This week, almost 80,000 people visited the website. Pretty good. On the money front, I received about $432 from nice people. My debt is down to about $2,000! YAY! AMAZING!

In eBay auction news, my Mark Cross wallet went for around $30, but some LOSER bid on it as a joke, never emailed me and then left me negative feedback on eBay to be mean. I HATE THAT! Two other people did that to me too! It stinks! So, if you are browsing through my auctions, and see 3 negative feedback commments, please know they are all from LOSERS who have nothing better to do than to screw with me. My Gucci purse has a few hours to close and is going for around $155. Pretty good!

This week, my "Big Ticket Item" is a lovely denim Katayone Adeli jacket. It was about $400 at Bloomingdales. I'll be honest here and tell you that I DIDN'T pay $400 for it, I got it on sale. But I still paid around $200. So check it out! It will go on the auction block on Monday.

There's a couple of new things this week. The first thing is my new online store. I created a Save Karyn logo and now have merchandise for sale! And before you start asking how I had money to do that, it didn't cost me a penny! Basically, I just created the logo in Microsoft Paint, and saved it as a jpeg file. Then at this website, CafePress, all I had to was send them the jpeg, pick where I want it to go on the merchandise, and VOILA! Instant online store! I get about $3 per item that sells, so buy away! PS - the cat has NO idea he's being pimped out on the logo.

The second thing that is new is the Amazon Honor System. It's another way to send me money! Basically, if you have ever purchased ANYTHING from Amazon.com before you are already a member, and can send me money as easy as 1-2-3! So if you are one of those people who visits my website frequently and hasn't sent me any money because you don't want to register with PayPal, and are too busy to buy a stamp, then the Amazon Honer System is perfect for you!

Oh - here's a funny story. So last week I told you that my sister bought me a purse (let's call it purse #1), so I decided to sell my Gucci on eBay. Well, I liked purse #1, but it was really, really big so I took purse #1 back to Bloomingdale's to exchange it for another. I looked and looked, but I couldn't really find something I liked, which is SO NOT ME. Anyway, I finally found one, exchanged away, and brought the new one home (purse #2). Purse #2 was pricey, I didn't pay any extra for it, it was just that purse #1 was pricey. And I wasn't sure if I liked it, so it sat in the bag for a few days.

I decided to take Purse #2 back and get a different one because I thought, "this is an expensive purse and I want to make sure I like it." So I took purse #2 back, and exchanged it for purse #3 - just as expensive, but I thought I would like it better. I brought purse #3 home, put my stuff in it (careful not to remove the tags), walked around the apartment, and I still wasn't thrilled. So, yes I brought purse #3 back to the store.

WHY COULDN'T I FIND A PURSE THAT I LIKED? AND SINCE WHEN DID I BECOME SO CONSCIOUS ABOUT HOW MUCH A PURSE COST? I kept feeling like each purse was a lot of money, and they weren't worth it, which is why I kept taking them back. EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T PAY FOR THEM. You see? I am LEARNING! Expensive purses are silly, and the new Karyn didn't want an expensive purse.

WHAT DID I GET? A cheap cute Diesel vinyl purse and a KILLER black winter coat. (I sold my last coat on eBay.) The coat was cheaper than the purse (and the origianl coat), but it seemed so much more practical and I was getting so much more for my money. So I am learning.

So 'til next week... don't spend lots of money on crap that you are going to throw on the floor of a bar. That's my lesson. Bye!

WEEKLY UPDATE - Week 14
September 29, 2002

Aloha mates! Welcome to Week 14's update! I am in a fine chipper mood tonight because I back in good health after suffering from a bout with the cold. After a week of a Nyquil induced slumber (I was too sick to go to a real drug store and buy the genric brand of Nyquil and had to settle for the real thing that I bought at the corner store), I am as good as new! Phew!

This week I collected $466 from nice people that still want to help me pay off my debt! Yippie! I also made $78 from eBay sales. Check out this week's "Big Ticket Item" my beloved Gucci bucket bag. I'm hoping it'll fetch a nice price. It's hard to part with this baby, as it has tremendous sentimental value to me. I bought it at the height of my shopping craziness last summer... bye bye bucket...

Also, today I officially started to potty train my cat to use the toilet. I bought the "Kitty Whiz Transfer System" in hopes that I never have to buy litter again (thus saving cash) and clean a litter box again in my life. The cat hasn't had to go yet. He just looked at it when I put the plastic thing on the pot. I have received many an email from people requesting the cat's name. This information is on a need-to-know basis only. He is not fond of everyone knowing who he is, and is particularly not happy with the fact that I told you all he has dandruff last week. So I am sorry, but his identity must still be kept under wraps.

In other news... the "Karyn Saves You" Page got 500 emails this week! Holy smokes! It's gonna be a tough choice! Lots of people are like me out there and owe money! Owing money stinks. If you'd like to be next in line and have me "pass the buck" to you after I'm debt-free, click the "Karyn Saves You" link at the left.

Also, I cooked up the turkey today that I won at the supermarket a while back. I cooked it at 325 for about 5 hours. It was nice. But you know what the best part about the turkey was? I shared it with my neighbors. I talk about my neighbors frequently. They are really nice people. Tonight we all shared a nice meal together. I coud have been selfish and hoarded the 13 pound turkey myself, but I didn't. I could have froze the meat and had sanwiches for a year, but I didn't. I could have made soup and froze that, and eaten that for a year, but I didn't. I shared it and it was nice. We ate, we laughed, we cried (maybe not cried - but it sounded good), we bonded over turkey. Neighbors are good.

So this week... get to know your neighbors. Knock on their door, smile at them, give them a wave. You both come home to practically the same place every day. You just might make a new friend. Bye bye!
